Serial Passport creates, hosts and maintains the digital battery passport for every unit you place on the EU market. One QR code per serial number, live for the battery's entire life.
The economic operator that places the battery on the EU market: the manufacturer, importer or brand. Serial Passport issues and hosts the passport on their behalf.
What happens if we stop using Serial Passport?
You can export all your passports and their history at any time in open formats, and we hand over hosted records under our continuity plan.
Which batteries are covered first?
EV batteries, light means of transport batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027.
Do we need to change our production line?
No. You download print-ready QR labels per batch, or connect your systems through the API when you are ready.
Is the passport data public?
Only the public part. Detailed dismantling and composition data is shown to verified repairers, recyclers and authorities, and every one of those views is logged.
Can repairers and recyclers update a passport?
Yes, once verified. Repairs, second-life use and recycling are added as lifecycle events, and each one is chained to the previous entry so changes are traceable.
How long does a passport stay online?
For the whole life of the battery. The regulation says the passport ceases to exist once the battery has been recycled, so the record is then closed.
What does it cost to scan a passport?
Nothing. Scanning is free and unlimited for everyone. You pay for issuing and hosting passports, not for people reading them.
